Overview
Orbit Domains (“Orbit”, “we”, “us”) helps you search for, register, transfer, and manage domain names at orbitdomains.net. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.
Registering a domain is different from signing up for most online services: certain registrant details must be passed to our registrar partner and the relevant domain registries, and some of that information may appear in public WHOIS records unless privacy protection applies. We explain this in the Domain registration & WHOIS section below.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use Orbit, we may collect:
- Account information — your name, email address, and password (stored only as a secure hash) when you create an account.
- Registrant & contact details — the name, organization, postal address, email, and phone number required to register or transfer a domain.
- Payment information — processed by our payment provider; we receive confirmation and limited details (such as the card brand and last four digits), never your full card number.
- Usage information — pages viewed, searches run, device and browser type, approximate location, and similar data collected automatically as you use the site.
- Communications — messages you send us for support, and your marketing preferences.
How we collect it
- Directly from you — when you register, place an order, contact support, or update your details.
- Automatically — through cookies and similar technologies as you browse (see Cookies & tracking).
- From third parties — for example, confirmation from our payment processor, or a risk score from our bot-protection provider when you sign in or sign up.
How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- Provide the service — register, transfer, renew, and manage your domains and account.
- Process payments and prevent fraud or abuse.
- Communicate with you — order confirmations, renewal and expiry reminders, security notices, and (where permitted) product updates.
- Operate and improve the site, including measuring performance and fixing problems.
- Meet legal, regulatory, and registry/ICANN obligations.
Domain registration & WHOIS
ICANN and individual registries require accurate registrant contact information for every domain. We provide the details you give us to our registrar partner and the applicable registry, and they may be retained or published in line with each registry’s policy.
When WHOIS privacy protection is available and enabled, your personal contact details are masked in public WHOIS lookups and replaced with privacy-service details. Privacy protection is included on every eligible domain, but it does not remove the registry’s own records or override lawful disclosure requirements.
Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. We retain some records longer where required to meet legal, tax, registry, or dispute-resolution obligations, after which we delete or anonymize it.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information — including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and restricted internal access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to respond promptly if an issue arises.
Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to opt out of marketing. You can update most account details directly in your dashboard, and unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any such message.
To exercise a right, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity first, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. Note that some registrant data cannot be deleted while a domain is active, because accurate records are required to keep the registration valid.
International data transfers
Orbit operates internationally, and your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including by our registrar partner, registries, and service providers. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as recognized adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses — to protect information transferred across borders.
Children’s privacy
Orbit is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of the page, and for material changes we will provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of Orbit after an update means you accept the revised policy.
