Before you transfer
A few ICANN requirements apply to every domain transfer. Get these ready at your current registrar first.
Registered 60+ days ago
Your domain must have been registered or last transferred more than 60 days ago (an ICANN rule).
Unlock the domain
Remove the transfer lock (clientTransferProhibited) at your current registrar.
Get the auth (EPP) code
Request the authorization code from your current registrar — sometimes called the EPP or transfer code.
Turn off privacy if needed
If WHOIS privacy hides your contact email or the auth code, disable it temporarily.
Approve the email
You'll get an ICANN approval email (Form of Authorization). Approving it speeds the transfer; otherwise it can take up to 5 days.
We add a year
A transfer includes one extra year of registration on top of your current expiry.

The transfer completes (usually within 5 days) and the domain appears in your dashboard.
Your DNS stays unchanged during the transfer, so your website and email keep running. After it completes, your registrant email is verified within 15 days per ICANN — we’ll surface that in your dashboard.
Transfer questions, answered
- Will my website or email go down during the transfer?
- No. Your DNS and nameservers stay as they are during the transfer, so your website and email keep working. You can change them afterwards from your dashboard.
- What is an auth (EPP) code?
- It's a transfer authorization code unique to your domain. You request it from your current registrar; we use it to prove you authorised the move.
- How long does a transfer take?
- Once you approve the ICANN confirmation email, transfers usually complete within a few hours to 5 days, depending on the registry and your current registrar.
- What does it cost?
- You pay one transfer year up front, which also extends your registration by a year. The exact price is shown when you check your domain above.
- What if the domain isn't eligible yet?
- Domains registered or transferred within the last 60 days, or that are still locked, can't be transferred. Unlock the domain and wait out the 60-day window, then try again.
