WHOIS questions, answered

What is a WHOIS lookup?
A WHOIS lookup queries the public registration records for a domain — who registered it (where disclosed), the registrar, key dates, name servers, and its current status at the registry.
Why are some details hidden?
Under ICANN's Registration Data Policy, personal contact data (name, email, phone, full address) is redacted in public records by default. We show what registries are allowed to publish, such as the registrar, dates, status, and name servers.
Where does this data come from?
Availability comes from our registrar backend (ResellerClub). The detail record comes from RDAP — ICANN's modern, structured replacement for WHOIS — and falls back to the legacy WHOIS protocol for registries that don't yet support RDAP.
The domain I want is available — what now?
If a name is available, hit 'Register it' to jump straight to search and add it to your cart. Most registrations go live within minutes.
