Transfer a domain to Orbit

Updated June 4, 2026

Bringing a domain to Orbit keeps your remaining registration time and usually adds another year. Before you start, make sure the domain is eligible.

Before you begin

  • The domain must be at least 60 days old and not transferred within the last 60 days.
  • It must be unlocked at your current registrar.
  • You need the authorization code (also called the EPP or transfer code).
  • The administrative contact email must be reachable to approve the transfer.
  1. 1At your current registrar, unlock the domain and disable WHOIS privacy temporarily if required.
  2. 2Request the authorization (EPP) code.
  3. 3Start the transfer with Orbit and enter the code when prompted.
  4. 4Approve the transfer confirmation email if your registry sends one.
  5. 5Wait for the registry to complete the transfer — this can take up to five days.
Transfers cannot be rushed by us — registry timelines and your losing registrar's release process are outside our control.
