What is WHOIS and how do I look it up?

Updated June 4, 2026

WHOIS (and its modern replacement, RDAP) is the public record of a domain's registration — its registrar, key dates, name servers, and status. Personal contact data is redacted by default under ICANN's Registration Data Policy.

Use Orbit's WHOIS lookup to check whether a name is available, see who registered a taken one, and view its expiry and name servers in a single clean view.
